Tesla Buys German Firm to Help Boost EV Production
Tesla wants to roll 500,000 cars per year off its assembly line past 2022 and now it'southward making moves to turn that vision into a reality. All information technology needed to achieve this is a proper supply line that understands automotive production.
The electric carmaker, earlier this week, announced plans to acquire Germany-based Grohmann Applied science, "i of the world leaders in highly automatic methods of manufacturing," Tesla explained in its announcement.
Post-obit the conquering, the company will go Tesla Grohmann Automation and serve as Tesla's 'Advanced Automation' headquarters. The squad in Prüm, Frg, will exist tasked with designing and producing 'several critical elements' of Tesla'southward automated manufacturing systems.
"Combined with our California and Michigan technology facilities, too as other locations to follow, we believe the issue will yield exponential improvements in the speed and quality of production, while substantially reducing the capital expenditures required per vehicle," the Tesla team said.
For consumers, this could result in shorter await times for a Tesla. The news comes after the US$35,000 Tesla Model iii in April racked upwards more than 180,000 pre-orders in its beginning 24 hours of availability. Those who pre-ordered will be waiting a while, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he is "adequately confident" that deliveries to customers will begin next year.
"Accelerating a sustainable energy hereafter is merely possible with loftier-volume factories," the Tesla squad wrote. "They let united states to manufacture high-quality products with economies of calibration, making them more affordable and accessible to the earth.
"Being the car that builds the machine, our factories are so important that we believe they will ultimately deserve an order of magnitude more attending in engineering science than what they produce. At very high production volumes, the manufacturing plant becomes more of a product than the product itself," they said.
